NAPEANSEA is a small but growing collection of homeware and lifestyle accessories that pays homage to the multi-faceted city of Bombay, the Gateway that fuses India and the West.
The brand is a fresh and elegant interpretation of India’s rich craftwork combining traditional techniques like bandhani, hand block printing and embroidery for a new audience.
Napeansea was founded in the Summer of 2015 by mother-daughter design team, Reena and Rohini. Rohini Wahi an interiors journalist and trend forecaster for WGSN, Elle Decoration, Living Etc and Design Sponge and Reena a supplier for brands like TOAST, Whistles and John Lewis bring together their unique perspective on the homeware and lifestyle market.
Both living in East London and regularly traveling to the US and India, they delight in drawing from a pool of global design knowledge, inspiration and influences in their work. Napeansea is underpinned by the spirit of balmy Bombay society nights, the respite of a cool verandah on a searing afternoon and the whisper of the sea breeze through the palm leaves of ‘Nepean Sea Road’.
A mix of artisan workmanship and covetable Indian textiles, each of our pieces are lovingly manufactured in the outskirts of New Delhi, in collaboration with a factory run by three generations of entrepreneurial women.
The factory’s day to day work culture reflects our belief that ethical production should be a way of everyday life. Over 100 craftsmen from block printers to embroiders and skilled tie dyers are valued as incredibly skilled artisans in their field with some a part of the family for over 15 years.
